Declan Rice: England or Ireland
Which would you rather?

Personally I hope he does a Jack Grealish. Declares for England, never gets called up. Stays injury free, no stupid tackle from fucking Shaun Wright Phillips. Think Lanzini aswell, wish he’d never gone to the WC.

Should pick whoever he wants to win when Ireland play England.

Given that he's English, I'd say it would have to be England.

Re: Declan Rice: England or Ireland
He doesn’t appear the slightest bit Irish to me.

I saw Robbie Keane on Sky for the Spurs/Man U game and that level of shambolic gibbering is my benchmark

In his position his competition for England is Dier, Henderson & Delph. I can understand Southgates DESPERATION

England, obvs.

Huge asset to the three lions.

Re: Declan Rice: England or Ireland
For his career England, for his and his family's safety Ireland, you know how those bog trotters react when they think someone has smited them.

But ultimately it should be the nation he feels most affinity to and most pride in wearing the shirt, or he may end up regretting it later on.

He is English.

The end.

I’ll back his decision.

The positive for us, if he picks Ireland, is that it would demonstrate a large degree of loyalty. More chance of him choosing to stay with us rather than going to a “bigger” club, like so many pundits think he should.

Lily

I think we both know that if he continues developing at current rate we'll be very lucky to still have him at 25.

In any case he may feel the sense of loyalty is for his country of birth.

He's English. But having chosen to represent Ireland he should continue to do so.

Pub Bigot 10:10 Thu Jan 17
Re: Declan Rice: England or Ireland
I'd usually agree Stewie, but the FAI's underhanded way of using young foreign players deserves to bite them on the arse. They route out players across the UK and further with sometimes tenuous links and then guilt trip them when their nation of birth comes calling.

They're also happy to let Irish players develop at underage level for Northern Ireland before potching them when they make it at a decent level.

Re: Declan Rice: England or Ireland
He should choose England and I hope he does. Like Bigot said Ireland have only got themselves to blame if he does a u-turn on them.

Re: Declan Rice: England or Ireland
Have to say at the moment that England have a very good chance in tournaments with the exception of having fairly average defensive midfielders, so I'd love him to play for his actual country, as he's already better than the others in his position and can only improve further and strengthen the team.

Re: Declan Rice: England or Ireland
I'd love to see England win something so Declan would help that but more limelight at this time would only encourage more vultures to circle his agent, so I hope he picks Ireland

cholo 10:46 Thu Jan 17
Re: Declan Rice: England or Ireland
The list of Ireland players born outside Ireland (the vast majority in England) is looooong.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Republic_of_Ireland_international_footballers_born_outside_the_Republic_of_Ireland

I didn't realise Kevin Sheedy was born in Wales.

Apart from a few notable exceptions (Barnes, Sterling, DORIGO) most England players born outside of England played at the turn of the 19th/20th century.

Re: Declan Rice: England or Ireland
It's where your raised that counts. My dad is Scottish and I'd rather lick tarmac than follow Scotland, a country I have zero sporting or cultural ties to.

Regarding vultures circling, they are already lads. Him representing England may increase interest, but not by much. His performances for us is what'll always alert suitors.

Re: Declan Rice: England or Ireland
He is going to pick England. If he was going to pick Ireland he never would have stopped playing for them.

Not sure why it's dragged on for this long to be honest.

Re: Declan Rice: England or Ireland
Since Gareth is England manager Rice has a chance.

If it was some dinosaur then he wouldnt get a look it and probably stick with Ireland.

If I was him, I would go with my heart not head.
